Is Atheistic religion the best? (From my wee eBook Why I Am Not An Atheist)
Having seen that Atheism is the belief that God does not exist and that it forms a life and world view from this presupposition, and that it is this Atheist life and worldview that we are calling the Atheist religion, we are now ready to explore if the religion of Atheism is the best religion.
The question becomes: Is Atheism the best religion as opposed to all other religions?
First off, we need to note that we are discussing militant Atheism, the sort that wants to, for example, remove Christmas Nativity Scenes from the public arena, prayer and Bible teaching from schools, the Ten Commandments from Law Courts, Christianity from politics, Creationism from science, redefine marriage, etc.
We are not here discussing the individual Atheist who quietly keeps his unbelief to himself. The Bible speaks of the quiet Atheist, the one who keeps his religion to himself, saying, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Psalm 14:1a. To be sure, no one likes to be called a fool.
To seek to remove every light bulb from a building is to seek to impose darkness on everyone in the building. By seeking to extinguish every last vestige of that upon which Western society was built, i.e., Christianity, Militant Atheism seeks to impose its will on the masses. Militant Atheism is engaged in cultural transformation. It wishes to swap Christian religion for its religion.
However, which expression, or in Christian terms, which “Denomination” of Atheism do they wish to impose on the rest of us? Unlike both Scotland and England, which have State recognised national churches, Australia, and America do not, which is to say that no particular Christian Denomination is favoured by the State in these nations. In Australia and America the State has left the people free to choose their own Denomination (or even to reject all of them). Militant Atheism wishes to change completely Western culture by having the State recognise only Atheism. Thus Atheism’s pushing to remove all Christian allusions and symbols from the public arena.
Like Christianity, Atheism comes in different forms, different “Denominations.” Take Buddhism, for example:
There is no almighty God in Buddhism. There is no one to hand out rewards or punishments on a supposedly Judgement Day … The idea of sin or original sin has no place in Buddhism. Also, sin should not be equated to suffering.
However, it is not the Atheist “Denomination” of Buddhism that Militant Atheism is seeking to impose on the West but rather the “Church of Neo-Darwinism.” The following quote is a sample of the type of material preached from their pulpits:
In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference.
Let us take note of four things about the Atheist religion (whether in its Buddhist or Neo-Darwinist form), 1) There is no Almighty God in control of the universe, 2) There is no ultimate “justice” or future accountability to Almighty God, 3) There is nothing morally wrong with human beings, and 4) There is no present or future suffering on account of sin.
Is Atheism a better religion than the Christianity (in its various forms) that the West has been used to until now? To be sure it has taken the West many centuries to attain the levels of freedom we presently enjoy and are on the verge of losing. There has been much turmoil and many wars, civil and global. There has been the Reformation and the Counter Reformation that opposed it. There has been the reining in of the authority of popes and princes from interfering in individual lives, also of government interference. Much treasure has been spent and much blood has been spilt.
Lutheranism had its influence on the Scandinavian nations, Calvinism (in its various expressions) on the English, the Dutch, the Scots and the Americans. But now Atheism in the form of Neo-Darwinism is attempting to take over. But is it the best religion? Is Neo-Darwinism the best “Denomination”? Is it worthy of State recognition and endorsement?
The West has been built on and shaped by two thousand years of careful Biblical exegesis. Should we now switch horses mid-stream and start applying what the exegetes of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species” are proclaiming? Should we believe according to the Atheist religion that there is no moral Authority? – no future accountability for our actions? That all human actions and behaviours no matter how abhorrent are normal? That suffering is not on account of sinful choices and wrongful actions among human beings?
To consider these questions is to inspect the moral foundations of Western society. To remove these foundations is to topple the West.
Summary: Atheism has no moral grounding.
